Happy New Year!
I know it’s a bit late for saying so. Are you mad? It’s been an interesting year so far. I actually spent the new year and most of January in Seoul, Korea! I visited once when I was 5 or 6 years old so it’s been a very long while since I’ve been back. What an amazing place! Such a booming city. Great food, cheap booze, and fantastic people.
To summarize: It was freezing! I wore every layer of clothing I brought. Coffee is expensive but good. Koreans seem to love waffles. There’s a cafe everywhere you look and they’re all really nice. Soju is under a buck at the market. I ate A LOT! Booze overall is cheap, except wine is overpriced. Asians DO all look alike (j/k, kind of). Baskin Robbins is a big deal there. I stayed at my uncle’s who was out of town, which was a bit far from the city. I ran out of hot water my 2nd or 3rd day there (it was so cold the water pipes froze!). I often found myself crashing at the awesome 24 hour spas (jimjilbangs) all over the city since the subway closes at midnight. I got to see a lot of family which was great. I also was able to see my dad’s best friend (Uncle Danny!) who I haven’t seen in nearly 25 years! I made a TON OF FRIENDS!
You have to check out this Food & Travel blog that my friend Sarah Lee runs called SEOUL IN THE CITY. I had such a blast checking out all the places she took me to. Awesome blog!
Here’s some photos from the trip!
I even got to do a couple of radio interviews and open for some really cool indie bands out there. The bands will be on a tour called SEOULSONIC which is coming to the States and Canada, March-April. I’ll be opening for them in New York at The Knitting Factory and in Los Angeles at The Roxy. Try and make it out if you can.
Besides the Seoulsonic shows I’m also playing a show with Jane Lui and The Sweet Hurt on March 12 in Los Angeles at Vision21 (Koreatown!) presented by ECHOforward. March 15th, I’m playing at Loyola Marymount University for their Third Tuesday program. Then heading to New York City to play at The Living Room on March 18. Looking forward to all 3 shows! I’ll also be back in NY to play at Bam Cafe May 6th. I’ll have more info on that event soon.
My mind is kind of mush now. I should write more but I still have mixed feelings about the internet, haha. I’ll try my best to update as often as I can.
later!
