Big Phony and September
So it’s been a pretty crazy past few weeks. Some of it a blur. Spent 2 weekends in a row in San Francisco. One week in Palm Desert caddying for a friend in a golf tournament. Shot a music video for a new song off the new album coming out next month!
San Francisco was great. The first weekend we had a live Big Phony webshow-chat that went very well I think. I was super nervous because it was such a new environment for me, but there was plenty of Guinness so all was okay. Thanks everyone who stopped by. Our host Gary was kind enough to buy us Taiwanese food (my favourite!) for dinner right before the show. It was great. Thanks Gary! And singer-songwriter Goh Nakamura hung out with us the whole time!

The second weekend in San Francisco, a whole bunch of us drove up to see our friends Sketch Comedy Group “OPM” perform in the SF Comedy Fringe Fest. They did such a great job with their hour show that they won “Best Sketch Comedy Show” at the festival. Congrats guys! I decided while there I would lay off the beer so I took on lots of Fernet and also had a glass of the recently legalized Absinthe. Both tasted very much like licorice. I enjoyed it.

Here’s a picture I took of a Jack Kerouac street sign right outside of the famed City Lights Bookstore.
We drove back down to LA from San Francisco after stopping by Berkley to try some Top Dog. I got a lemon chicken dog and smoked apple chicken dog. Great place, and cheap! People were smoking weed in public in Berkley.
As soon as we got back to LA I drove 2 and a half hours east to Palm Desert where I caddied for a friend golfing in the Golf Channel’s Amateur Golf Tournament all week. Walked everyday in 110 degree weather with a bag of golf clubs on my back. People thought we were crazy because they were all on golf carts. I think we were the only ones walking out of 5 or 600 hundred golfers. Sounds bad but it was actually one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. Had so much fun, and we came so close to winning first place out of nearly 100 players in our flight (division). We were in 3rd place by the last round! So close!
I learned something very interesting about the human body while out there in the desert heat. We drank tons of water and Gatorade each day on the course but never really had to pee? It was so hot all the water we consumed was exiting our bodies through other exits. Very interesting. Things that make you go hmmm…?
Drove back Saturday and got some much needed rest. Slept in till noon then it was off to sound check in Downtown LA for the 16th Annual APEX Gala Awards, where I had the pleasure of performing a couple of Big Phony songs to around 500 people in suits, tuxes and fancy dresses. I believe I was the only person there without a jacket and wearing sneakers. haha. The highlight of the evening for me was having the opportunity to finally meet Laura Ling and Euna Lee. The two American Journalist who were detained in North Korea this year. It was such an inspiration to be able to speak to them and to finally see them safe again with their loved ones. Lisa Ling, Laura’s sister was kind enough to send me a picture she took of them while I was on stage. That’s me in the middle!

Such a great night.
Sunday morning I got up and got myself a 6 dollar coffee and toast in Downtown before meeting The Mighty Fifty guys at The Social Trust where we were shooting a music video for “A Country Apart.” A new song that will be available on the new Big Phony album coming out soon! The shoot went very smoothly and all the actors came super prepared. They had to learn and sing along with the song. It was very weird for me to see, but kinda cool. haha. Will keep you posted on when that will be available to see!

Thanks for stopping by. I’ll have some more updates soon! Visit my other site in the meantime: www.fmylife.com.
