I Got Mistaken For A Woman, Again

March 31st, 2009 by Big Phony

It’s been sometime now since my last post. I’m not sure how times goes by so quickly these days. They say time flies when you’re having fun. Anyway, I hope everyone is having a great year thus far. I’ve been doing okay. I suppose that’s better than worse, and for that I feel blessed.

Been working on some new recordings these past few months. That’s about all I’m gonna say about that really. I get pretty superstitious about talking of things I’m planning on doing or finishing, because those things almost never get done then. One of those “all talk, no walk” stigmas I guess. That’s why I never talk about falling in love or planning on being cool. Oops.

Thinking of calling the new recording “Asian Cowboy.” jk

Grandma passed last week. She was our last living grandparent. It was sad to see her go but it was her time. Grandpa went just a few years earlier. They’re together now, probably making fun of my hair. I just wish I had gotten to speak to her more about her life story. Growing up it had always been difficult to communicate with her since she only spoke in Korean, and I didn’t. Only recently did I start taking Korean language courses so I can talk to her and my mother about other things other than “I’m hungry” or “I’m sick, I can’t go to school today.”

I did make her laugh one last time. I’m happy for that. A few weeks ago I was visiting her in the hospital. A nurse was making rounds and came into the room and asked my Grandma “Is this your daughter?” Grandma got a good kick out of that. Another funny thing was my brother walks in, sees the orderly and asks me later “is that a guy or girl?” Mom sees him/her a little later and asks the same question to us, but in Korean. I understood. Felt a little better about myself, haha.

What else, what else? Oh, San Francisco was great – Love that town. Spent a week in NY – Good to be home. Played a guy that eats lunch by himself in a Ben Stiller movie – No joke. Drove to Vegas to say hi to a friend – Said “hi” and drove right back.

Much more has gone down in the past few months but I’ll have to save it for another time. Have to tell you about the guitars my friend Koo bought me. Peace y’all.
